President's Letter
Welcome to the first edition of Chukka Chat for 2022. We were incredibly fortunate as a polocrosse community to have an uninterrupted season in 2021, when so many associations have had plans thwarted for a second year running. Thank you to everyone for having the confidence to support polocrosse in WA, and the clubs who hosted carnivals throughout the state. Thank you to everyone who has spent time organizing, planning, and participating at all the carnivals this year. Two zone championship events and a revamped Club Championships, with players travelling across all three zones is a testament to the enthusiasm of WA players.
Congratulations to those players selected to represent WA at the upcoming Ballarat Nationals. Whilst WA’s border is set to open on 5th February 2022, the uncertainty continues to a degree, and I thank those players for their commitment to polocrosse whilst keeping one eye on the COVID-19 latest developments at state and federal level.
Congratulations also to Suzette Thomas for her selection in the Australian women’s team to play against NZ next year and Jane Marriott on her appointment to coach the women’s team. Congratulations also to Taylor Radford on her selection. This rounds out a year of WA players in the national spotlight, as we had a number of juniors also selected for Australian squad representation earlier this year, but unfortunately did not get to participate due to Covid restrictions. I’m sure they will all maintain their places under the selectors’ watchful eyes into the future. Congratulations to Tom Keightley and Ashley Cooper on being named in the PAA Intermediate and Junior Allstars teams respectively.
Information regarding the PAWA AGM is distributed in this newsletter and sent to clubs. I encourage all members, not just club delegates to join in and take the opportunity to reflect on the 2021 season, and offer thoughts on improving or evolving polocrosse in WA. We’ve had some robust discussions on social media through the year, and some challenges facing the sport as a whole, and this meeting is the opportunity for members to have a say in a forum that enables change. Please send through agenda items through your club secretary.
At the recent PAA Special General Meeting, the new Constitution was accepted that will transition the organization from an incorporated body to a company limited by guarantee. This ensures future funding from the federal government, and provides a structure in line with other national sporting organisations. The PAA fee structure for 2022 was also set, with positive news for players next year.
I hope all members and your families and loved ones had a very happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year, and look forward to seeing you in 2022.

PAWA President
PAWA AGM

VENUE: Caversham Hall
Lot 34 W Swan Rd, Caversham WA 6055

TIME:
Saturday State Council Meeting 2.00 pm

Saturday Evening Function Cancelled due to Covid
With the developing COVID-19 situation in Perth, & people having to travel from the regions, the most pragmatic option from a governance perspective is to move the meeting online. Obviously in-person meetings are preferable but in this instance the safety of our members is our priority. Please contact your club secretary for the Meeting link.
Club secretaries have been requested to reply back on behalf of your club to acknowledge receipt of this change and advise if there are any changes to your delegates ASAP.
Thankyou to the association council members and all the clubs and their members for a great year – we hope everyone had a safe and happy holidays and will see you soon!
Thanks
Kim Maguire

Toolbox Survey
Your club could gain much needed funds just by completing this short survey
The PAA is currently surveying all Clubs to better understand how we can help your Club manage and grow polocrosse by providing a range of resources on the PAA website. This will include important initiatives such as getting grants, recruiting volunteers and strategic planning. So far only half of the Club’s have responded. If you are interested in the success of your Club please contact your Club’s secretary to see if they have done the Survey.
Thank you
